Canadian Navy – Served 2 years

As a “Soaker” in the Engine Room Branch of the Navy, Bill was a boiler and steam room engineer. Married at 16 before he was deployed, Bill trained in Winnipeg, Halifax and England where he learned to build ships (Empress of Scotland).

During his two years of service, Bill travelled to Russia and Gibraltar. He remembers sleeping in hammocks during designated time frames, sinking German subs and being awarded a medal.
