Donald Clyde Simpson
Amica at Mayfair
Canadian Army – 10th Area Signals Regiment – Served 3 years
As a Private in the Army, Donald served for 3 years in the 10th Area Signals regiment.
Donald was a telephone installer along the west coast from Vancouver to Bella Coola to ensure early response to any surprise Japanese invasion.
After completing basic training in Vernon, BC, Donald was stationed in Kitsilano. He served 3 years, leaving the Army in 1944.
During his years of service, Donald remembers being the lone male installer working at St. Anne’s Academy among several hundred women. Shortly after he married, Donald had to spend three weeks away from his young bride to install phone lines for the doctors at the Harrison Hotsprings Hotel, which was used as a service hospital.
