Foreign Service – 68th Fanteria Regiment, Italian Army – Served 2 years

In 1943, at the age of 18, Giuseppe joined the 68th Fanteria Regiment of the Italian Army. As a soldier, he fought against Germany in east Italy.

Giuseppe went through hard times during the war – sleeping in bushes or holes that were made by bombs the day before, going without food for many days, and seeing his comrades dying beside him.

After two years of service, he returned home in 1945, thanking God he was alive. But his struggles weren’t over. After the war, there were not many job opportunities and it was another fight to survive. Moving to other areas where the economy had started to recover Giuseppe finally found work.
