As a member of R89987 Air Force Squadron, Robert was a Sergeant, Airborne Radar Mechanic, responsible for repairing and maintaining all radar equipment on aircrafts.

Robert joined the Air Force in the spring of 1941. Six months later he was sent to England, then Gibraltar, then to South Africa, then back to England. After 5 ½ years of service, Robert returned home in 1945. His highlights during the war include being asked to ride on 2 trips in the aircraft while “in action,” as well as writing to his girlfriend Janet.
