Our attractive four-storey property is conveniently located at the south end of Douglas Street in James Bay, just a short stroll from oceanfront scenery. In our well-appointed buildings—one for Independent Living and one for Licensed Residential Care—you’ll find thoughtfully designed common areas, patios and suites with balconies with views of the water or the well-kept greenery that surrounds us. With just 102 suites, we offer a cozy, home-like setting. Our Independent Living suites include a full kitchen so you can continue to make your famous preserves or prepare your own meal if you wish, while still enjoying access to our dining room.

Exploring the neighbourhood

Amica Douglas House is in a well-established, upscale residential neighbourhood. We are across the road from Beacon Hill Park, renowned for its colourful gardens, petting zoo, ponds, outdoor concerts, horse and buggy rides, and walking trails. The adjacent Niagara Road is home to an area known as “the Village,” which has charming boutiques and restaurants, as well as a grocery store and pharmacy. You’re a short walk from the waterfront Dallas Road with its newly installed dedicated paved walkways that extend west to the Breakwater Lighthouse, a popular destination. Many of our residents join us from the neighbourhoods of James Bay, Oak Bay and Fairfield.

Our residents enjoy regular excursions via our comfortable scheduled shuttle to local destinations, such as visiting the world-famous Butchart Gardens, shopping at the Sidney Street Market or taking a scenic drive along the waterfront. Take in a live theatre event at the Royal Theatre or Chemainus Theatre, see the latest exhibit at the Royal BC Museum, or set sail on a day tour via ferry to several Gulf Islands.
